The Volkswagen Super Bowl 2013 Ad was released yesterday. In the ad a happy guy in an office talks in an Jamaican accent and is cheering everybody up with a beetle ride. Now some voice criticism that the ad is racist as it stereotypes Jamaicans.
Well, nothing better could have happened to the Volkswagen Super Bowl 2013 Ad. The VW SuperBowl ad has only generated 500,000 views so far. Far behind for instance of the Toyota Super Bowl 2013 Ad starring Kaley Cuoco that was also released yesterday.
With the sudden controversy that Volkswagen has apparently expected as it has done its homework. The Huffington Post reports that chief marketing officer Tim Mahoney said the company consulted with 100 Jamaicans and used a dialect coach to ensure the accuracy of the actors' accents. "We obviously did our homework to make sure that we weren't offensive," he said.
I expect that the Volkswagen Super Bowl 2013 Ad makes a big jump in views over the next 24 hours because of the racist discussion. Watch the Volkswagen Super Bowl 2013 ad below.
